Arabs and Jews opening of Synagogue for human-rights work |
Introduction During the war in Kosovo, we addressed the Polish youth with a request to contemplate on three tragedies: in Auschwitz, in Kolyma and in Kosovo. We asked young people to respond to three questions: • Why Auschwitz?
• Why Kolyma? • Why Kosovo?
and to present their answers in the form of a letter to a friend. Therefore we aimed at a personal reflection, not just a knowledge. Some of these reflections were so wise that they were worth translating to provide five language versions: Polish, English, French, German and Russian; and placing them on our website: together with additional information about the death camps in Auschwitz and Kolyma, and about conflicts at the Balkans.Today, after the 60th anniversary of Auschwitz-Birkenau camp liberation, we address the youth worldwide. We propose that you reflect on the future. Please think about new threats and ways to prevent them. Therefore, please think about three new questions: • What threats do you see today?• What should young people do to eliminate them? • What can you (your class, your school, your organization) do? You can reply individually or you can discuss these in groups and describe results of your discussion. We will be grateful for all your reflections, experiences and proposals. Also young people from Oświęcim are asking you to do that. "Hatred is trendy nowadays", wrote a high-school student replying to our survey on "Youth and Violence". We know it is trendy on sports stadiums, we also know that in some schools elder students violete rights of younger ones, we know that not only in poor countries but also in rich ones, there are people who lack everything, and they most lack hope... We know that the good ones who remain passive encourage the active evil ones to act. What is it like at your place? May we count on you? Stefan Wilkanowicz Please send them to one of the below addresses:Fundacja Kultury Chrześcijańskiej ZNAK Polski Komitet UNESCO Państwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau On this website you will find information about other crime scenes in Poland and about the centres in Oświęcim which are trying to help you to understand what has happened here, and to develop the dialogue and cooperation. We are also passing on the message of the youth people from Oświęcim to young people all over the world. |
