Oświęcim 2000: Re-opening of the synagogue

In 2000 Oświęcim saw the inauguration of the restored synagogue. Apart from rabbis, it was participated by Tadeusz Rakoczy, bishop of Bielsko-Żywiec diocese, and Duke El-Hassan bin Talal, uncle of the King of Jordan, moderator of the World Conference Religions and Peace.

Bishop Rakoczy said: "The grace of this meeting has happened! Our common Father! Let no-one feel conquered, although hope often proves more difficult than faith (...). Lord, let us to be people of eternal hope".

While Duke Hassan said: "Blessed be all who were created as likelihood of God. It is my solemn duty to be here with you during the ceremony of reopening of the synagogue at the site whose name in the latest history has been a synonym of incredible suffering and inhuman cruelty. I pay tribute to those who died here and give respect to those who survived. Nowadays let us work for benefits of the future".
